i said goodbye to my facility manager job of 4.75 years yesterday and started today as a program manager for a local architecture firm. i am very excited to get back to my first career love of architecture and design!! i will be working on multi-family attainable housing projects all over the country.
it's been a stressful decision that started the day i had a great virtual interview in mid september, after being contacted by a recruiter in late august.. then i was invited in for a quick office visit/tour, during which i met many of my co-workers (although there are only about 50 people total working in this office), and then the offer letter came in all within a few days. i knew if i did not make the move now, i may not have gotten this opportunity again. i have missed working in a design capacity since the role i loved at jcpenney morphed into something different in late 2017 (then it basically disappeared during the pandemic). although i am grateful for the last few years, especially having a steady income during the pandemic, it's time for a change.
