jags v spirit

we had gorgeous weather for big sister's season opener today - breezy in the 50s.  (little sister did not have a game this week.)  it was odd seeing our team in a new color, but we soon got used to yelling "go green!" instead of "go blue!"  big sister played goalie for the 1st period and left forward during the 3rd.  it was 3-0 at halftime, and the final score was 5-3.  great job, jaguars!!

the girls picked out their own hairstyles and outfits for spring picture day today.  big sister chose a french braid and little sister wanted 2 pigtails.  we even practiced our smiles, not that they typically need help with that, but for some reason they tend to get shy for school portraits.  maybe it's the peer pressure?  well, in a few weeks we'll see how they turned out.  stay tuned...

slumber party

 little sister went to her very first slumber party last night.  this is all she has been talking about for the last 2 weeks - well, this party and soccer, but the opening day soccer games got rained out yesterday, so luckily she still had this to look forward to.

she took her pillow, sleeping bag, puppy, toothbrush, pajamas, and clothes for the next day.  we'll never know exactly what went on, but here are the highlights from the parents that were brave enough to host:

*about 15 girls attended the birthday party - 5:30 to 9:30, but only 8 stayed the night

 (really, 8 kindergarteners overnight??  are y'all CRAZY??)

*they had pizza and cake (poodle-shaped) for dinner, with milk to drink

*there was a pinata (poodle-shaped) and little sister really whacked it good, so well that the parents asked if she plays softball or something. 

(no - she just really wanted the candy!!)

*all 8 girls camped out in the living room in front of the tv, watching strawberry shortcake

*2 girls got homesick and went home around midnight

*breakfast was donuts and grapes

*pick-up was at 9:00, but when daddy got there at 8:45, little sister was the last one left - and the parents looked super tired!

speaking of super tired - little sister took a nice nap this afternoon, no doubt much needed to recover from her night of non-stop fun.  note that she is still wearing the bottoms from yesterday, because according to her, i "did not pack her any new pants."  i did pack her new pants, she just could not find them.  she also made it thru the night without her puppy, which was in her bag but she took it out on the ride over and left it in the car.  luckily, she had her thumb, and borrowed a stuffed animal to love on, and was just fine.  i think she had a great time and maybe we will try a sleepover of her own sometime soon.

when they want to be, these girls can be really sweet to each other.

the other day, they were teasing me, only i did not know it at first.  i was driving and big sister said, "mommy, why did you go under there?"  i heard her, looked around, tried to think to myself, what did i just drive under? - confused, i asked her "under where?"   they both immediately started giggling. 

"she said underwear!!"

new season

 today was the first practice of the spring soccer season, not only for big sister but for little sister too.  ironically, at big sister's first practice in the fall - it was about 105 degrees.  today it was about 40 degrees, if that. 

we met little sister's new coach and 2 teammates.  (the other 2 did not show.)  big sister got to practice with her 2 new teammates and the 4 returning ones.  they also got their new jerseys - big sister's team is now green and little sister's is bright pink/salmon colored.  and they both ended up with the same jersey number.  now all that's left to do is wait for game day!

season ender

yesterday was the last indoor soccer game for the winter season.  the jags made it a game to remember, winning 14-6 - and big sister scored 1 goal, and another $20!!  actually, all of the girls scored at least 1 goal this game, which is the first time this has ever happened.  coach's dad treated all the girls to ice cream after the game to celebrate the win and end of the season.

 speaking of another $20...look how big sister finally got to spend all of her savings:

after learning they did not have pink, she settled for a red 3DS.  she and little sister have been taking turns playing it pretty much non-stop.
