junior year!

little sister wanted a summer job.  

she applied at bruster's in june while we were in hawaii.

they finally called her for an interview on july 23.

her first day was july 27.

she has been averaging about 20 hours a week.

plus school.

plus band.

and when she's not at school or band or work.....

she's probably napping ;-)

first game

first game of the season was in arlington and ended with an overtime win 42-41.  the band didn't get back to the high school until midnight, then percussion had to unload.  so it was a very late night for little sister.  i have decided not to travel to the away games this season, but i do plan to attend all of the home games.  so none of these away pics are mine - thankfully there are others that take pics and share! :-)

freshman again

big sister started college this week.  it's not where she had planned but i think this is the best way for her to build some confidence and baby-step into some independence without throwing her out into the world to go it alone.  i am so very thankful that she is excited about diving in and getting some basics completed.  her goal is still to transfer to utd after a year (or maybe two) and focus on animation.  this semester she is taking 16 hours, monday-thursday.

the campus is fairly small so she has been having no trouble getting around.

she also started a new job on august 13 as a froster at nothing bundt cakes.  she is planning to work fridays and saturdays.  she has even brought home some cakes that were not up to par (destined for the dumpster! gasp!!)

show and tell

this evening was the post-band camp parent performance where the kids show off all they have learned over the last 3 weeks as they put together this year's marching show.  it was miserably hot in the stands and i'm sure not much cooler on the turf, but hopefully milder weather is on the horizon.

this year's show is entitled "what's the buzz?" and i am excited to see it come together.

little sister is yet again up front and center playing marimba,

so she will be easy to keep track of. :-)

back to school

sometime last year, little sister was worried about having to go to school by herself, since big sister would be graduated.  she asked if maybe big sister would be able to go with her for the first few days just to get her used to it.  well, this morning, there was no hesitation to get up and drive herself - she even left early to beat the predictable first-day-back traffic! i hope this confidence and enthusiasm continues....

happy first day of junior year!!

apparently we were a little too loud getting ready this morning for school/work and we woke big sister up.  she has another 12 days before her first day....so enjoy the last few days of your one job being to keep the kitties awake all day....

10 days late, but this "adult" now has her drivers license renewed for 8 years.  no more provisional license and no more restrictions.  oh yeah, and she registered to vote too!

meet the lobos

 

in an attempt to somewhat avoid the heat of the day, this year's meet the lobos started at 8am.  little sister worked the cymbal line.

summer band

you know school will be starting soon once band registration day hits!  that also means it's picture day!

my one and only band member this year has already been hard at work at band camp.

doesn't she look so excited to drive herself to camp early each morning?? each day had a different dress up theme.

she left at the same time i leave for work and it's weird to see her driving alongside of me down the road. :-|
