last year's parade was cancelled, so it was nice to resume the tradition this year. the girls started at the high school and walked/marched with the band the 2.2 miles to the stadium. daddy & i parked near the stadium and waited for them to pass by.
then after the parade, everyone gathered inside the stadium for a short pep rally.
they also announced the nominees for each grade level's homecoming court. little sister made it to the short list of 5 nominees for sophomore baroness!!
good luck, little sister! the winner will be voted on by the respective grade levels and announced at the pep rally at the end of school on friday.
after a few more songs by the band, we were all free to head home.
little sister joined the rest of percussion for their second competition of the season. i did not go, but big sister went to support them and take photos as official band historian. there were no awards given, but more of an exhibition performance for practice.
today was supposed to be our band's annual all-day fundraiser marching contest, but we had to cancel a few weeks ago due to lack of schools signing up to attend. so instead, the parents were treated to a full performance of this year's show: the way of the warrior.
when we first arrived, the band was still warming up.
then everyone exited the field except for front ensemble to go get ready for the 10am show.
after putting on their shakos, the band reentered the field just as they would if this were a real competition.

next, just the drumline/front ensemble performed the show, the way they do when they go to drumline competitions.
football games are usually so noisy, so it was nice to just be able to hear & enjoy the whole show without the crowd noise.
for tonight's away game, i only signed up for pit crew - not to be a chaperone. i met the kids at the game and was able to leave after halftime. we were treated to a beautiful sunset just as the game was getting underway.
the band was seated in the lower section closest to the field, with no room for chaperones (or me!) to sit near them. so all i got was a view of their backside, and the beautiful sunset.

just as our band was setting up on the field & being announced, we were surprised to learn that BOTH girls were named "bandsmen of the week" for their respective classes (sophomore & senior). along with that comes a nifty tshirt proclaiming that honor. i did not get a recording of the announcement, but i was able to snap a photo of little sister and the pure joy on her face. :-)
once again, i had a great view of the girls from where i stood with the pit crew.
when i left after halftime, our team was losing 28-38. after i got home, around the time i figured the game should be ending, i checked online for the score and was shocked to see that the score was tied at 56-56 and heading into OT. our team won by a field goal 59-56, taking their record to 5-0 for the first time in school history!
