thankful

 what a difference a year makes!

we are so thankful to be able to host family again this year for thanksgiving.

less thankful to have to wait until today to get our fill of turkey & all the trimmings....

early bird lunch

big sister was invited to a special senior lunch off-campus as part of the group of 30 students that have already applied & received college acceptance letters.  it was basically a 2+ hour field trip with some good friends.  we are so proud!

last competition

 

little sister and the rest of the drumline competed today at 7pm. they placed 3rd and got best front ensemble in their performance class.  it was an indoor performance which sounds very different from all their other outdoor performances.  the group did great and should be extremely proud of themselves.

last game

tonight was the last football game of the season, marking another "last" for big sister as her senior year continues to fly by at record pace.  she was part of the group of 100 or so seniors that walked on the field during a pre-game ceremony held in their honor.  the seniors represented band, color guard, football, tennis, golf, choir, drill team, cross country and athletic trainers.

we gave little sister the role of being a superfan from the stands!

not only was it senior night, but it was also boo bowl - the event that the kids anxiously anticipate all season long.  after a quick wardrobe change, big sister became princess rosalina and joined the rest of the band already in the stands.

little sister has been planning with her section to dress as minions for a while now.  i made everyone's goggles, printed stickers with the G gru logo, and ended up dying a long-sleeve shirt yellow for her when we could not find one.  i think they looked super cute and coordinated.  their director even dressed up as gru!

big sister's section decided to be characters from mario kart, complete with cardboard box race cars.  i made several tutus & embellished the shirts for rosalina, peach, daisy, and king boo. whew!  big sister made 4 sparkly crowns to complete their looks and another girl made most of the cars.

for halftime, the band performed thriller and the fight song in what i affectionately call the "boo!!" formation.

after halftime, the clarinets posed for some photos.  there sure are a lot of them!

then daddy & i left with grandma & grandpa, who had come for a weekend visit.  on the way to the car, i caught front ensemble at the truck finishing up their load.

the game ended in a loss, 35-17, taking the final season record to 5-5.  until next fall, that's it for marching season!!

senior locker

 

i spent the good part of today compiling memories from big sister's four years in marching band to create a decoration for her locker in the band hall.  her locker is tiny but there are unassigned ones around hers so we just took up a little extra real estate! ;-)
