easter weekend

with a four-day weekend from school, we took advantage and drove down to san antonio for a quick easter weekend visit.  we had some extra cargo:  little sister's drumset.  she is selling it to one of cousin's friend so he can practice is percussion skills.  hope he uses it more than little sister did! ;-)

after getting in late evening saturday, we ate a delicious homemade spaghetti & alfredo dinner.  then sunday was easter, and my mom hosted us for breakfast, lunch, and the traditional easter egg hunt and making of the bunny cake.  the kids did some swimming, and then we headed back home monday morning.  it was a short trip, but nice to spend time with family.

quadruple header

first up: at 10am & 11am, the crazy soccer monkeys took on a rival team - kill squad - and won in 2 sets (25-16, 25-16).  this was a total shock!! (to me, anyway) - as we were tied for third place with this team & past matches with them did not go in our favor.  i was sure that we would at least go to 3 sets per match, but i was pleasantly surprised.  little sister had some nice serves and got to play all of the first match and part of the second.

up next: at 12pm & 1pm, little sister got back on the soccer fields as referee for some u6 games.  she also got her 2nd paycheck: another $52!  woo hoo!  she has her eye on a pair of roller blades, so i'm sure the money will not stay in her piggy bank for long!

another seventh grade game tonight....at our home field.....and the girls only lost 1-0.  it was SUPER windy, and playing on turf made for it's own new challenge.  but the girls did great holding their own against another eighth grade team.  :-)  after watching the eighth grade team, the bus headed to rosa's cafe for taco tuesday.....and little sister was in heaven!

i am slowly working my way thru all of the flowerbeds...and i got a little more done tonight.  i basically work until i fill up the trash can.  :-)

soccer game

little sister played in her first soccer game with the seventh grade team tonight at 5:30pm.  unfortunately, many schools do not have a seventh grade team - so they send their eighth graders instead....the lady lobos were defeated 4-0 - but that didn't stop them from working hard!  after their game, the girls watched the eighth grade girls play, and then came little sister's favorite part (i think...) - dinner out with the team.  the choice was cane's chicken, and they didn't get back to school until around 9:15pm....but that's all part of the fun!

bluebonnets!!

when i started out on my search today for this year's best bluebonnet crop, i had no idea it would end so well!!  of course, everywhere in bloom that i was reading about online was in south texas....the hill country....or rural areas way too far for us to drive to just for our annual photos.

i tried a nearby park - but the blooms were few and far between.  i scoped out our usual spot at my old work, and decided that location was my best bet.  and my plan was to take the girls there over the coming weekend.

then - with a few minutes to spare en route to pick up big sister from band auditions, i detoured to the local cemetery.  when i saw a sea of blue before i even got off the main road, i knew i had hit the jackpot!! so, after a quick shift in plans and one wardrobe change - i had succeeded in taking this year's pics.  yay!!  and i didn't even have to bribe the girls to play along!

and when i got all i wanted and was ready to head home, the girls asked for just a few more.  the fence and tree were their ideas..... :-)
