day's day weekend

 
we made a quick trip up and back today to see little sister, enjoy a meal, and take her some things she wasn't able to fit in her luggage since her last trip home. we were up before the sun to start the 4-hour drive north.

soon after arrival, dad put on his matching shirt and they looked so cute together.

since little sister had skipped breakfast and the house activities had not started yet, we picked up boyfriend and decided to try out one of their favorite brunch spots, just wafflin'.  although there was a bit of a wait, it did not disappoint. 

then we dropped off boyfriend at the airport where he was scheduled to make his first solo flight later that afternoon.  how exciting! then we headed back to the house and checked our the silent auction, met a few friends, and snapped some pics.

we swung by little sister's room and i finally got a pic of her with her bed - something i failed to do back when we helped her move in.  and yes, she did have to tidy up a bit first!!

before we knew it - it was time to say our goodbyes and begin our trip back home. until next time!

50th birthday cookies

50 minis for a 50th birthday!

 

day 6

so maybe we didn't exactly plan perfectly, with our late arrival on maui, stop for ramen dinner, and then relatively lengthy drive (for an island) to our hotels - to have time to check into new hotels, go to bed, then be up before sunrise to drive 18 miles away for 7:00am snorkeling......but that is what we had planned for today. but it certainly turned out to be a gorgeous day.

after settling in on the boat, we cruised to the first stop: turtle town, then headed off to molokini crater.  in total, the tour and snorkel stops lasted 5 hours.

we took advantage of the onboard photographer to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

having been served breakfast and lunch on the boat, when we arrived back on land we were free to explore the island a bit.  the kids took one car and went looking for treats and drinks, while the adults headed more inland to locate some family property.  we all gathered together again for an evening of dinner and cultural entertainment at old lahaina luau.

after a really long day, we made it back to the hotel will full bellies and grateful hearts.

day 5

 

we said farewell to the leis we had made by draping them on the duke kahanamoku statue near waikiki. this also happened to be near the spot where we were catching our 9:45am tour bus that took us to pearl harbor.

it was fairly hot, but we managed to stay cool while going through the museum while waiting for our timed entry to the memorial.

we caught our tour bus back to our hotels at 3pm, packed up, and headed to the airport.  we had a 6:30pm evening hopper flight to maui.
