silly sentences

big sister has to write 5 sentences each week using any of her 25 spelling words.  this is her thursday night homework.  she usually completes this work at daycare after school.  today she gave me her sentences to use as i called out the words to her as a practice test.  she did all 25 words instead of just the required 5.  some of the sentences she came up with were pretty cute, or funny, and others just left me scratching my head!  here is her list:

I went to the dentist.

My sister ran the final lap.

Mom ran to the finish line.

My dad has a narrow couch.

Pepper has a shelter in place.

I’m ahead of the test.

My sister cries in the corner a lot.

My mom has a hollow head.

Dad loves to divide in math.

My cat is famous around the world.

I got a recent from the bank.

My sister has a silver bell.

My mom captured me and my sister.

My dad’s mom lives in a cabin.

Pepper gets dinner at 7:00 p.m. and a.m.

I minus 7 and 8 and it equals to 1.

My sister likes Minute to Win It.

Mom bought a value book.

Dad got a reward.

My cat had broken my tooth.

I’m decent for my stuff.

My sister secure the front and back door.

Mom is standard Monday-Thursday.

Dad said that North America is a frontier.

Pepper ran as fast as he was in a stampede.

opening day

we had perfect weather for little sister's first game of the spring soccer season.  and she scored 1 goal and assisted with 2 others, for a final score of 6-1.  way to go, **sparkles***!!!

young authors

big sister brought home a book yesterday that her writing class wrote last semester.  it's called water for life!  it's filled with tips about how to save water, why we should save water, and other fun facts.  each student wrote and illustrated their own pages.

spirit squad party

today the girls had their end of the season spirit squad party.  they enjoyed 3 hours of pizza & drinks, nail-painting, craft-making, and at the end was the trophy awards ceremony.  they had lots of fun throughout the season, made some new friends, and learned many new cheers.

last games

alas, today was the final game day for the spring basketball season.  the ducks gave a great effort, but ended the season with no wins.  that's okay, there's always next year!

big sister had fun cheering at her last game with all of her squadmates.

between games, we attended a skating birthday party for one of little sister's classmates.  having skates at home and over a year of practice makes a world of difference.  i was so proud to see them skating circles around everyone else.  ;-)

no rest for the weary

and just when we thought we were gonna have time to catch our breath with basketball and cheer season ending....here comes soccer season!  little sister had her 1st practice tonight, and is excited to be back with the **sparkles!***

happy valentine's day!!

with little effort, it was super simple to dress the girls today in pink & hearts. 

so, yesterday morning i got the idea to make personalized valentine cards for the girls to pass out at school.  i had seen the idea on facebook, and forgotten about it, but then i remembered again.  i figured that if i was organized and strategic about how i went about it, i could definitely get it all done in one day.

step 1: take photos of the girls before school.

step 2: doctor up the photos a bit on the computer to make them into valentines, then upload them to a 1-hour photo place.

step 3: pick up the prints on the way home from work, and also stop at the grocery store and buy lollipops.

step 4: assemble the cards with candy at home and pack them up for delivery to school on valentine's morning.

so, that was the plan.  only big sister did not want her picture taken that morning.  so instead of argue with her, i decided that she could give the leftover valentines from last year to her classmates.  (plain, jane, storebought cards)

after work, i picked up the photo prints of little sister (step 3) but almost panicked when i could not find lollipops on the valentines aisle at 2 stores.  most of the shelves were empty and i was regretting waiting until the last minute.  luckily i decided to look on the regular candy aisle and was able to find a bag of dum-dum pops.  (not looking so dumb now, was i??)  crisis avoided.

when i got home, i quickly put together one valentine and showed little sister.  she was super excited and eager to help me assemble the rest.  big sister came over quietly, looked at it, and immediately got sad.  i took one look at her, one look at the clock, let out a sigh, and said "go turn on the computer.  mommy will take your picture and print up your own set of valentines."  thankfully, i had enough dum-dum pops to make both sets.  big sister was very happy that we were able to make her personalized valentines and said she did not  understand this morning the reason why i wanted to take her photo.  maybe next time she will just have to trust me. :-)

it silently snowed all morning, and even though school did not get cancelled, we still got snow!   about 1" total when all was said and done.  the girls were excited to play in it after school, but most of what was left was on the driveway and on the rooftops.  they managed to scrape enough together to make a tiny snowman. 

this was way better than the ice storm we got 8 weeks ago.  but seriously, spring cannot come soon enough in my book.
