this evening, the middle school's 3 bands (honor, symphonic & concert) combined to bring some musical spirit to the 7th grade football game at the stadium. little sister played snare the whole time!!
at first, we had a view from behind, because the directors sat the band in the student section right next to the field. the story i heard was that the cheerleaders requested the band be closer so they would be able to hear them better. so there really wasn't a good vantage point for parents to take pictures.
since i was attending as a chaperone, i decided to make myself a front-row seat to the percussions section. i'm not sure who was luckier - me or little sister!! ;-)
she was looking so serious (and unhappy) as she was playing, so i told her to smile more........and here is what i got.
of course, they played many of the songs multiple times....but i think they did pretty well. practice makes perfect, right?
today big sister's marching band hosted their annual competition at our stadium. she was there from 8:00am until about 10:45pm. such a looooong, hot day! her band only did an exhibition performance, then they worked various stations to help out with the 17 bands that were there competing.
tonight was an away game, but we only had to travel 7 miles to get to it. although the final score was 56-13 (the rangers took the W) - we were excited to finally see big sister marching again. it turns out that her "a" marcher will be sitting out the rest of the season due to UIL ineligibility....so she will be marching in the primary spot for the rest of this season. tonight was the first night for full uniforms - and the band sure looked awesome!!
daddy & i sat on the home side so we would be able to see the front view of the halftime show.
we were back to our normal "only one thing to do" tonight.....volleyball! the "b" team won at home in 2 sets to come out victorious. little sister even made a few nice serves.
tonight was another weeknight game, but this time it was at home at 7:00pm. it was a rematch with the same team that we played last night - and the ending was different this time. little sister scored, and the final score was 2-0.
first, we have to drive 17 miles to a 6:30pm weeknight game.
then, it started to downpour as soon as we got there.
thankfully, it was just a quick shower, and it did cool things down about 15 degrees. and the lingering clouds blocked the sun so we didn't feel like we were in a sauna.
the game was tied 0-0 until the very last few minutes. we scored, then they scored. so we ended with a tie, 1-1.
little sister tagged along with some friends to the #FCDvsNYC game on association night. she always has such a fun time with her squad! they even made it up onto the big screen. #famous #DTID
little sister had to split her time tonight between her volleyball game & the fall band concert. here WAS the plan:
5:30-6:05pm* - "c" team game
6:15-7:00pm* - "b" team game (little sister's game)
7:00-7:15pm** - drive to high school
7:15-8:00pm - fall band concert

well, let's just say things did not go according to the plan.....
unfortunately the lady cougars were about 30 minutes late to arrive, which means the "c" team game started around 6:10pm......(40 minutes LATE!).....
the "b" team didn't start playing until 7:00pm (45 minutes LATE)....which was also the start time for the band concert. the middle school has 3 bands - concert, symphonic, & honor - so since little sister is in honor, we knew she was not starting right at 7:00pm....
even though it was already 7:00pm, we felt we still had a little bit of time to let little sister play. she started in the first game, which she usually does not do, but the coaches were trying to accommodate her need to leave the game early.
when the score was 17-9, little sister got subbed out - and since it was now 7:11pm, we thought we had better go!
so daddy drove her quickly to the high school, while grandpa & i followed in his car. she changed into her band uniform on the ride, and after her attempt to enter thru the band hall door failed, she ran around to the main entrance and into the backstage area of the auditorium. meanwhile, grandpa & daddy parked and we walked in to find some seats. we entered the auditorium just after symphonic band had finished and honor band was taking their places on stage.
by 7:27pm - i was hitting "record" on my phone as the honor band started playing their first of two songs. mosswood - she played the suspended cymbal
hypnotic fireflies - she played bells & chimes i was in shock by a couple of things:
1) that we has made it "just in the nick of time," as the saying goes
2) that the concert did not last until at least 8:00pm (honor band finished at 7:36pm) - apparently each band only played 2 songs (instead of 3 like I was expecting)....
i sure am glad we do not have to do this "fire drill" every thursday!!
tonight was a rare saturday football game for the kids. this was another away game far from home. big sister again sat out from marching in the show, but we're hoping she gets her own spot very soon! she is such a hard worker and she deserves an equal opportunity to showcase her talents.
it was a hot, humid morning for soccer. but the fusion girls came away with an 8-0 win, and little sister scored another goal!! that makes 2 goals in 2 games this season - wonder if she can keep this streak alive....
the girls were sporting their new volleyball cover-ups tonight, and looking sharp!
after working as line judge for the c-team game....
....little sister's lady lobos team took another victory in 2 games (x-x, 25-7) over the vipers. they really did have a lot of excellent plays and their serving was much improved. little sister even scored 5 points with all her beautiful serves. we are so proud!! #19
tonight big sister traveled across town almost an hour to the second game of the football season. she went to school as normal (7:20a-2:55p), then hung out at the band hall before game meal handout at 4:00p, uniform check at 4:45p and then loaded the bus at 5:00p. i picked up chick-fil-a for her and delivered it in place of the optional game meals. she didn't get back to the school until after 11:00p - so it was quite the loooong day for her! we're hoping in just a few more weeks some cooler weather will make an appearance so that being outdoors so long is a little more fun.
little sister pieced together a neon outfit for today's spirit day at school. i bet she was quite the sight to see like that riding her bike to school!
the volleyball game tonight went to 3, but the lady lobos pulled out another win!
(26-24, 18-25, 15-6)
little sister played in the 2nd game, but they were horribly off in their rotations and lost some points (and momentum) due to those errors. luckily the team rallied and pulled out the win in the 3rd game. we look forward to seeing the team gel better as we get further into the season. (the girls also had a 3-day week of school and only 1 practice this week before tonight, so......there's that.) even if it took 3 games, we'll still take the W!
