happy anniversary to us!  little sister drew a picture of us going out on a date.  so sweet.

first day of (summer) school

big sister's first day of summer school is today.  we signed her up for a 4 week intensive "summer scholars" program to improve her reading, writing and spelling skills.  she will be 1 of 70 kids in the program and assigned her own personal tutor.  grandma will also be working as a tutor for another student.  hope they have fun!

cupcake time!

happy birthday, grandma p!  we sure are glad you came to see us on your birthday!  what better reason to try out our new giant cupcake pan?

surprise, daddy!

 no sleeping in this morning.  we made you "cake"-fast - which is kind of a cake for breakfast, made out of breakfast foods.  hash brown, scrambled eggs, and bacon, layered between pancakes, topped off with whipped cream and fruit.  voila!

 even little sister ate some - eating around the eggs, of course. 

seriously, who can resist cake for breakfast??  and whipped cream on pancakes?  now that is something we need to try again soon...

we finally made it to the wildlife ranch that is only 20 miles from our house!  this is the place big sister tried to go to twice for her 2nd grade field trip.  the girls were excited to spend part of their day seeing all the exotic animals, riding the kiddie train, and even convincing me to buy them a small souvenier to remember their visit.  little sister was brave enough to pet a small snake, and they both got to pet a baby kangaroo and lemur.

last day

today concludes the last week of school.  little sister is already calling herself a 1st grader, but big sister assures me that she will not become a 3rd grader until the end of the summer.  (so at least that buys me a few months to get used to the idea!)

it was a rather disappointing week, with the cancellation of two events due to thunderstorms/lightning.  on wednesday, the 2nd grade field trip was cancelled for the 2nd time, and with no time for a make-up - big sister got no field trip at all this year.  (the originally scheduled trip in march was also cancelled due to weather.) 

and with storms yet again on thursday, the outdoor "luau day" party for the whole school was moved indoors.  so, there were no water games or outdoor fun.  but the girls were flexible and pumped for today's brunch feasts in their classrooms and early dismissal.  hello, summertime!!!
