summer's here

 no sleeping in on the first official week of summer break!  the girls had to report bright and early to the high school – 5 days of percussion camp for little sister (8am-4pm) and just 3 mornings of band council duties (8am-noon) for big sister.  big sister was the official photographer (as historian) for the camps and captured most of the fun being had by color guard, percussion, and the freshmen.

after getting home from band, big sister had a small break before reporting to work as the newest apprentice swim instructor at ms. jane's swim school.  she worked 5 days from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the savannah neighborhood pool, about 10 miles away from home.

pretty much all week it's been rainy, with storms (lightning) actually delaying class on monday.  on thursday and friday, the sun finally came out which made the water feel warmer.  we are so very proud of big sister for completing her first week at her first job!

cousins reunited

 first time these cousins have seen each other since thanksgiving 2019! although he was only in town for about a day to attend a friend’s graduation party, we found time to hang out in the morning & eat lunch.

soccer cookies

 i had another request for custom cookies from the same neighbor.  this time she wanted 30 soccer balls to put into goodie bags at her daughter's tournament.  i used the largest round cutter i already had (3.5")  that would fit into the individual bags i already had.  i made a template using my cricut machine and traced the pattern of a soccer ball onto each cookie using an edible marker.

next, i used a black icing to fill in the black parts of the soccer balls.

then i let them dry fully overnight, and went back in with the white icing to fill in the remainder of the design.

my next challenge was to add the team name to the cookie.  i used the team logo provided and made another stencil to trace onto the cookie before outlining it in blue icing.  i like how the "s" and "g" have little stingers extending from them, so i was sure to add in that detail.

repeat just 30 times!!

i charged $3 per cookie, and got a $10 bonus as appreciation for doing the order so quickly.  she placed her order on sunday and i had the cookies bagged and ready on friday morning.  it was exhausting at times, but mostly enjoyable.  i am learning so much each time i make a batch, too.

school's out!

the girls said so long to their freshman & junior years today.  i am so thankful they were able to attend school in person and approach a semi-normal year.

in the running

big sister came home earlier this week to tell me that she submitted her name to run for historian of band.  i knew neither girl was trying out for section leader, but i didn’t know there were other positions.  only one other girl (ailicec) was running against her, so we made an appeal to little sister to get all of her friends to vote her way.  well…..guess who won!!  as far as i can tell, her duties will include taking photos, creating the senior slideshow & video interviews for the band banquet, anything else publicity-related.  i am confident that her creativity will come in very handy in this role.

spring concert

tonight little sister was the only musician in our household playing at the spring concert, since big sister is still recovering from having her wisdom teeth removed last week.  big sister still went and dressed the part with her instrument in hand, but she never played a note!

our last game of the season was today - a make-up from a rainout.  the girls showed no mercy and won 15-1.  big sister yet again caught most of the action in photos.
