time for track!

today was the opening track meet for little sister, and she competed in two events:  triple jump and 300 hurdles....she thankfully is not doing the 1600 this year ;-)

up first were the field events, which started at 3:30pm.  with the last two weeks being rainy on & off, that put a damper on tryouts - it's hard to practice triple or long jump in the gym!  but after a few days of trying at the end of last week, she was placed into this event and tried her best.  she made three attempts, with the middle one being a "scratch" since she stepped over the white line, and little sister ended up taking 2nd place in this event!

 

then at 5:00pm, the track events started.  it wasn't until about 7:00pm that little sister ran in the 300 hurdles.  she did very well, not knocking over any of the hurdles, and earning 5th place.  in my book, that is a major win!!

busy saturday

first up today: big sister competed at her region's solo contest, and she received a superior rating!  we are so proud.  she played finzi's five bagatelles movements 1 & 5.  she has not rated a 1 on a solo since middle school, so this means she has earned a letterman jacket!  and she got a nice medal, too!

around the same time, little sister was busy refereeing two morning games before being invited to an impromptu late-lunch birthday celebration for emma.  these six girls, usually found hanging out for school sports or on weekends at rec volleyball or soccer, were now having fun hanging out for the afternoon.  how lucky to be part of such a fun group of teens! ;-)

lady lobos v mcmath

tonight was the last game of the eighth grade basketball season, and the girls did great.  they won 25-9, and little sister scored 4 points and committed 2 fouls.  she also stubbed/jammed her toe early in the first quarter after colliding with another player, which i didn't find out until she got home after the game.  way to work through the pain!!

 she had the honor of doing the opening tip for her team in the center circle.  she successfully tipped it to her teammate, and then ended up taking a shot later in the play and getting the ball stuck between the rim and the backboard.  everyone giggled just a bit at this!

tonight the lady lobos just could not pull out the win. they lost 10-18, bringing their season record to 3-3-1.  little sister scored one layup and committed two fouls.  she played almost the whole game, too.  win or lose, it is so fun to watch her and her team play.

from a morning meeting on thursday that included some singing....

...followed by a team lunch that ended with a song...

...to the actual birthday today that included watching my house's floors get cleaned (by my children & hubby), a nice lunch out for cheddar bay biscuits, garden salad, baked potato & coconut shrimp (yum!), and then a relaxing afternoon of scrapbooking.  what more could this girl ask for??  i am so blessed by my family & hope this next year is healthy & happy.

it was a real nail-biter of an ending to tonight's last home game, which was played at the high school.  after coming from behind to tie up the score 13-13 at the half, the girls once again came from behind after being down most of the second half, to tie the game 22-22 for the final.  little sister contributed 3 points.  a few players were missing (either sick or injured) - so it was not a bad result for only having 6 players total.  to say little sister was tired at the end is an understatement!!

this tie puts their record at 3-2-1 with 2 games left to go.
