pumas v panthers

after some pre-season drama (i.e., the league taking our payment and sending an email confimation regarding successful registration, then somehow NOT placing little sister on a team...) - little sister had her first game today with her new team: the pumas.  jerseys came in but were missing the numbers, so hopefully by the next game all the girls will be in the official team gear, not just wearing white.  this season's coach is focused on teaching the girls skills over scoring goals.  this will be a new direction for little sister, as for the past two seasons, she has been more of a defensive player than offensive, but that should only improve her game.  she played 3 of the 4 quarters, and nearly missed 2-3 goals. 

one game down....nine to go...   better luck next time :-)

first game

today was big sister's first game of the new spring season.  she is back with the tigers, but only about 4 girls are returning players - the rest are new to the team.  big sister did great as goalie, but the girls still lost 0-6.  maybe once they get their groove, they will do better on offense.  big sister did great with attacking the ball and had some powerful goal kicks.  a few parents even commented how much she has improved.  we are very proud.

hammer time

daddy has been taking the girls now and then to the saturday morning "build and grow" clinics at lowes.  but today was my first time.  the girls built a monster jam grave digger truck.  i wasn't sure how into monster trucks they would be, but they seemed to enjoy it more than i thought!

stars v canucks

daddy got discount tickets for tonight's hockey game.  so for less than $30, we had a few hours of family fun.  (maybe next time he can get tickets for a non-school night...)

 we left about halfway thru the game, when the score was tied 2-2.  the stars went on to lose 3-4, but it was a fun new experience for us all.  big sister was most disappointed she did not get a t-shirt.  they were being launched into the crowd at various times.  i told her the odds of getting one of those shirts is not very good.  next time we are at jcp i will swing by the licensed apparel section and see what i can find for their newest pint-sized fans.

science field trip

 today was the first grade field trip to the elm fork education center at UNT.  they were surrounded by science - like how to generate electricity on a bike to make a light bulb glow...

...and who do we have here?  a future meteorologist?

 ...a group of nature-walking scientists?

 ...or maybe some paleontologists?

the cold weather was all forgotten when these kids started their digging.  i was impressed with how engaged the kids were with all of the activities.  we learned about turtles & tortoises, tadpoles, dragonflies & mayflies, and crawfish.  and we even got to see a planetarium show.  i went on this same trip two years ago with big sister, and it was just as educational for me the second time around.
